On August 12th, 2009, The River of Life Foundation initiated a fundraiser in the Bay Area for the Taiwan August 8 Flood relief. With the overwhelming support from the Chinese community and media, a total of $110,000 was raised by Sept. 9.
In the mean time, President of ROLF Steve Wang left for Taiwan on August 19th to survey the disaster situation in person. He visited the affected regions of LinBien Village in PingTong County and HsinYi Village in NanTou County. LinBien Village was covered by mudslides and flooded by seawater. The water level reached as high as 5 feet and did not recede in many days. ROLF allocated funds and worked with the local volunteers to help clean up the silt and clear the sewers in the local residences. For long term support, we will also continue to provide services for the victims, such as the after-school tutoring for elementary students.
HsinYi village is located in the mountain region of NanTou and the residents there are predominantly the Bunun aboriginals who make living by planting tomatoes and green beans. The typhoon on Aug. 8th produced torrential rainfall which triggered massive mudslides and landslides. Many roads were damaged or washed away, while croplands were inundated and school buildings were destroyed. ROLF will be providing the affected aboriginals with relief fund for agricultural loss, subsidy for living expenses and stipend for their children’s education. We will also assist with after-school tutoring and school dormitory management.

In addition, ROLF is planning to allocate funds to help the severely affected LiuGuei Orphanage in LiuGuie Village, KaoHsiung County.
The goal of ROLF is to support the disaster relief on a long term base. We will continue to participate in the rebuilding projects for both Taiwan flood and SiChuan earthquake. Your continued support and donation will be instrumental for us to continue these projects.

Your support and commitment is vital to ROLF. We need your financial help to institute and facilitate each and every charitable action. Please sign up for the “One Dollar A Day” program. Your contributions will bring tremendous blessings to those in need. Thank you!
